Bring Learning Home with Computers for Youth-LA (at San Fernando Middle School)

Computers for Youth (CFY) helps low-income children perform better in school by improving their learning environment at home. Upon completion of CFY’s Family Learning Workshop, each participating family receives a free desktop computer to keep forever (a.k.a. Home Learning Center), educational software, and training on how to use their new Home Learning Center. CFY is looking for volunteers to serve as Ambassadors that help guide families through educational software and to navigate their new Home Learning Center. Individualized assistance ensures that families keep up with the workshop lessons, have a positive experience, and walk away with a good understanding of how to use their new Home Learning Center. Ambassador Training is provided on-site 30 minutes before workshops begin. All Ambassadors receive a free CFY t-shirt. Volunteers are needed on Saturdays, and may select from the following time commitments: list of 3 items • 8:00 am to 1:00 pm; • 11:30 am to 4:45 pm; • Or, 8:00 am to 4:45 pm. list end CFY volunteer opportunities take place at various middle schools throughout LAUSD. CFY’s direct-service operations are designed to help educators strengthen the school-home connection and provide families with the key ingredients required to improve their Home Learning Environment.
